Austin, Travis County and Williamson County have been the site of human habitation since at least 9200 BC. The area's earliest known inhabitants lived during the late Pleistocene (Ice Age) and are linked to the Clovis culture around 9200 BC (over 11,200 years ago), based on evidence found throughout the area and documented at the much-studied Gault Site, midway between Georgetown and Fort Cavazos.
Stephen Fuller Austin (November 3, 1793 – December 27, 1836) was an American-born empresario. Known as the " Father of Texas " and the founder of Anglo Texas, [1][2] he led the second and, ultimately, the successful colonization of the region by bringing 300 families and their slaves from the United States to the Tejas region of Mexico in 1825.
The " Old Three Hundred " were 297 grantees who purchased 307 parcels of land from Stephen Fuller Austin in Mexican Texas.
