I am getting crappy finishes and crappy tool life using 30,80,0!
45 Degree Buttress Thread Wire size = P/1.707 (in your case .100/1.707 = .0585) Measurement over wires M=d+1/4p (in your case 4.250+0.025= 4.275) A simple formular is: depth = 3/4 pitch. Depth being from your OD to the sharp point at the buttom of 45 deg. In your case 0.075 /side. bckchck something tells me that this is a special.
This size buttress thread generally has a *lot* of clearance. You probably don't need to get too picky about measuring. We used to cut even bigger ones with a simple handheld template. Backlash was one of the more important measurements. On a thread this size they wanted a decent bit. And I would rather not cut it without the mate either.
How to cut a buttress thread... Admittedly, this is not a Deckel thread form, but it exhibits the necessary information. Make a cutting tool for the included angle of the thread. For example, the one I show is 45° / 5°. That equals a tool with a 50° included angle. A 60° tool angled would not work for my thread.

For example, if an experienced European designer had some need to use a common 1/2-13 thread, he'd specify it as such on the drawing rather than calling it out as 12.7-1.954

The thread on it is a buttress thread. The problem I'm having is 1, I have never cut a buttress thread before. I do have an insert for the pitch I need though. 2, The OD of the male thread is 2.671 with a 12 pitch. This is a very odd size. Can't tell if its worn or if thats normal(2-41/64?) 3, how do you measure a buttress thread?
