It is situated along the upper reaches of the Ashuelot River, a tributary of the Connecticut River. The pond is good for boating, fishing, and wildlife watching.
At 3,071 acres (1,243 ha), [2] it is the eighth-largest lake located entirely in New Hampshire. It is the lowest in elevation and largest in surface area of the four Connecticut Lakes.
