The governor of New Hampshire is the head of government of the U.S. state of New Hampshire and is commander-in-chief of the state's military forces. The current governor is Republican Chris Sununu, who took office on January 5, 2017, and has been re-elected three times.
Sununu was first elected governor of New Hampshire in 2016. He was reelected in 2018, 2020, and 2022. Sununu is the second governor in New Hampshire history (after John Lynch) to be elected to a fourth term. [2] On July 19, 2023, he announced that he would not run for a fifth term. [3]
