The Casio F-91W is a digital watch manufactured by Japanese electronics company Casio. Introduced in June 1989 [1] as a successor of the F-87W, [2] it is popular for its low price, long battery life and iconic design. [3] As of 2011, annual production of the watch is 3 million units, which makes it the most sold watch in the world. [4]
The first digital watch was the Pulsar, introduced by the Hamilton Watch Company in 1972. The "Pulsar" became a brand name, and would later be acquired by Seiko in 1978. In 1982, a Pulsar watch (NL C01) was released which could store 24 digits, likely making it the first watch with user-programmable memory, or the first "memorybank" watch.
Later specialized tool watch designs were introduced like the Promaster Eco-Drive Professional Diver 1000M Titanium BN7020-09E in 2017. This is a very large watch, the titanium watch case has a diameter of 52.2 mm and thickness of 22 mm and features a helium release valve, designed for mixed gas saturation diving at great depths. The series is the successor to the previous Samsung Gear watches. The first smartwatch under this series, the Galaxy Watch, was released in August 2018. [1] The Galaxy Watch series shares the circular form factor of the Samsung Gear S2 and S3, as a result much of the OS features are shared between the Gear S2 and S3 and the Galaxy Watch.
