Lake Carroll is a private man-made recreational lake located in Carroll County, Illinois. It was formed in 1974 by the damming of the east fork of the Plum River near the town of Lanark, Illinois. The earthen dam [2] is owned and operated by the Lake Carroll Association. [3] It is the largest private lake in the state of Illinois.
The Territory, which is managed by a homeowners association, has set aside 1,500 acres (6.1 km 2) of protected recreational land. [7] [8] The remainder is filled with low-density residential development and Eagle Ridge Resort & Spa. As of August 2017, there were 4,082 property owners, 554 permanent residences, and 1,675 vacation residences. [9]
