This consists of 258,958 congregational mosques and 295,194 small mosques which fit 40 people or fewer. The government estimates total number of mosques at more than 740,000 nationwide. [1] To be included in this list, the mosque has to be a landmark of a particular region and historically notable.
In the beginning, the mosque did not equip the minaret, just like the traditional Javanese Islamic architecture style. In 1930, the mosque was renovated to resemble the Great Mosque of Banten but without a minaret. In 1956, the minaret was attached after the renovation. [2] In 1968 the mosque was renamed to Ats-Tsauroh which means "struggle".
The mosque was later officially given the current name based on the government decree No. 451.2/Kep.546-Huk/2010. The name "Bantani" is an Arabic term for Banten, and many ulamas from the Banten region who served in Saudi Arabia used the term "Al-Bantani" to describe their names.
Banten also has historical tourist destinations such as the Great Mosque of Banten, the Old Banten Museum, the Multatuli Museum. Tanjung Lesung Beach, in the Panimbang district of western Pandeglang Regency, covers about 150 ha (370 acres). A proposed special economic zone in 2012, the Tanjung Lesung SEZ became operational on 23 February 2015. [63]
