Equate is a board game made by Conceptual Math Media where players score points by forming equations on a 19x19 game board. Equations appear across and down in a crossword fashion and must be mathematically correct. Because of its characteristics, the game is often described as a Scrabble with math. [1] [2]
The game comes with "over 400 word problems, a strategy guide, glossary of math terms and progress reports". There are 3 levels of difficulty. [4] [5] The game teaches skills including: word problems, estimation, geometry, equations, modelling, whole numbers, money, fractions and decimals.
A player who correctly challenges another player wins the game. The loser of a game gains two points, The winner six, and the sider (if he sided with the winner) gains four or two (if he sided with the loser). Equations games become more intricate with the use of factorials, vulgar fractions, and even logarithms, in the Senior division.
A sequel called Math Blaster Episode II: Secret of the Lost City was released in 1994 and a prequel for younger children called Math Blaster Jr. was released in 1996. The game Mega Math Blaster (also identified with subtitles "ages 6-9" or "3rd Grade") follows the structure of Math Blaster Episode I with a new story and art design.
The conjecture is that there is a simple way to tell whether such equations have a finite or infinite number of rational solutions. More specifically, the Millennium Prize version of the conjecture is that, if the elliptic curve E has rank r , then the L -function L ( E , s ) associated with it vanishes to order r at s = 1 .
As simple as third grade may seem to be, this math problem that was posted on Reddit totally stumped students, parents, and the entire Internet.
