The Bloom Energy Server or Bloom Box is a solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) power generator made by Bloom Energy, of Sunnyvale, California, that takes a variety of input fuels, including liquid or gaseous hydrocarbons [1] produced from biological sources, to produce electricity at or near the site where it will be used.
Natural gas power stations opened at a fast rate throughout the 2010s, quickly replacing aging, dirty, and economically unviable coal-fired power stations, but by the early 2020s new plants were mostly wind and solar with only Texas, Ohio and Pennsylvania continuing to open significant numbers of gas plants.

As of 2018, California had 80 GW of installed generation capacity encompassing more than 1,500 power plants; with 41 GW of natural gas, 26.5 GW of renewable (12 GW solar, 6 GW wind), 12 GW large hydroelectric, and 2.4 GW nuclear.
