Sedgwick County is located in the U.S. state of Kansas. Its county seat is Wichita, [3] the most populous city in the state. Sedgwick was laid out on an 80-acre (32 ha) town site in 1870. [4] It was named for John Sedgwick, a major general in the Union Army during the American Civil War. [5]
