Here's our Bolo and Broomhandle. The Broomhandle's been refinished and the grips aren't correct, but what the heck. The Bolo's got that "Been there, done that" look, probably a veteran of several wars, a revolution or two, and a few unauthorized bank withdrawals, but I intend leaving it that way.
Mauser - 'Broomhandle' - C96 Pistol - Caliber 8.15mm (Experimental) Pistol - Variation 1 Since the early 1960s, there has been much discussion re the C96 - 8.15mm pistol … A small number of these pistols have been verified and exist within the Model 1930, 8xxxxx to 9xxxxx serial range.
I just purchased a C96 9mm Broomhandle Mauser. It is brand new still in the box and chambered for 9mm. The label on the box is IAR, Inc. Serial # 47151. It looks in new condition too. There is a parts booklet with a date of 1998. If I can get the cosmoline off. Not real bad but it has gotten hard, so it will take a little work.
The entire history of the Mexican contract is available in the new book: Paul Mauser - His Life, Company, and Handgun Development 1838 - 1914. I have here in the Paul Mauser Archive the original contract signed by Paul Mauser and the General Victoriano Huerta on the 20 April 1910. This document is visible at page 437-438 of the mentioned book.
I have a Mouser C96 Broomhandle that I recently had repaired, and my question is about ammo. It shoots the 7.63x25 Mauser, but the only ammo I can find is the 7.62x25 Tokarev. My question is, is it safe to use the 7.62x25 Tokarev factory loads.
The difficult part is to determine whether the "chinese broomhandle' was actually made in the 30's and 40's (various chinese copies in 7.63mm caliber of that vintage in 95% or better condition will bring around $1500, and the ones in .45acp in $4k range) from 1970s and 1980's production guns which are about $750-1000 if in nice shape, and are much less collectible.
Marking should read "WAFFENFABRIK MAUSER A-G OBERNDORF AN" and if misspelled it could be a Chinese copy of a C-96. Value can range from $500 to $5000 or more so it is worth knowing what he has as if a correct Mauser C-96 it could be of a much greater value than if a copy.
That Mauser was imported into Belgium at some point. The L mark means that the gun was imported from a country whose proof is not recognized by Belgium (U.S. guns have the same mark). I thought that Belgium recognized German proof, but that seems to have sometimes been a political matter rather than a strictly technical one.
