  2. Skyscanner - safe to buy tickets??? - Rick Steves

    community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/transportation/skyscanner-safe-to-buy...

This is actually quite common with travel websites, not just with Skyscanner. Off the top of my head, I can think of seeing this regularly on Kayak and Orbitz – a good fare isn't really available once you start clicking through to purchase. It wastes a lot of time and, obviously, isn't all that helpful for purchasing IMHO.

  3. Skyscanner - Rick Steves Travel Forum

    community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/transportation/skyscanner

Google flights, Kayak, Skyscanner, etc I am checking them all. But I always book directly with the airline. Often the attractive or special price that's shown by the third party is a very short or very long layover if there's a connection, so do check the details, as well as class of fare.

  4. Possible silly question about Skyscanner - Rick Steves

    community.ricksteves.com/.../possible-silly-question-about-skyscanner

That is true, kellis. I have also noticed though that some ticket sellers listed in SkyScanner offer to "protect" you - that is, if your first flight is late and you miss the second one, they would be responsible for getting you on a later flight. I assume that would apply even with a change in airports.

  5. Was it a big mistake to buy an airline ticket from Skyscanner

    community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/italy/was-it-a-big-mistake-to-buy-an...

I've used Skyscanner in the past and it's been fine. People warn against booking through such sites, because it's easier to deal with a problem, if one arises, if you've booked directly with the airline. But that doesn't mean that the site is bad or a scam.

  6. eDreams - Rick Steves Travel Forum

    community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/czech/edreams

I used Skyscanner which takes you to about 5 booking companies. Normally, RyanAir is one of them, but in this case, they were not listed so I chose eDreams. The charge is pending as RyanAir blocked them - I'm worried I will be held accountable for the charge even if I don't verifiy with RyanAir.

  7. Multi-city vs two one way tickets - Rick Steves Travel Forum

    community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/transportation/multi-city-vs-two-one-way...

What is the general advantage of booking multi-city instead of two one way tickets. I was on Skyscanner, used multi-city, and chose booking with the airline. It then recommended I book the two flights separately anyway. Is this an airline thing? Airline is TAP. EDIT: Thanks for the input, everyone. Helpful info.

  8. Is "Hop2" legitimate? - Rick Steves Travel Forum

    community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/transportation/is-hop2-legitimate

Hello - Skyscanner directed me to a website named "Hop2" for my U.S./Europe flight. The price quoted is unbelievably cheap, the schedule is perfect and it's on a major carrier.

  9. Airlines for Malaysia, Singapore, and Australia - Rick Steves

    community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/beyond-europe/airlines-for-malaysia...

We are considering a trip August 2023 for between 17 and 21 days to possibly include Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Darwin, Alice springs (via ghan), and Melbourne.

  10. Train ticket prices on rome2rio - Rick Steves Travel Forum

    community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/transportation/train-ticket-prices-on...

And use skyscanner.com (or airline search engine of your choice) for airfare. Train fares can vary greatly by day of travel, time of travel, type of train and date of purchase. Rome2Rio is highly imperfect. It's not just the fares that are often off the wall. The travel times and frequence may bear no resemblance to reality.

  11. How soon to book a flight to Italy - Rick Steves Travel Forum

    community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/italy/how-soon-to-book-a-flight-to-italy

Before Covid, some thought 2-6 months before the flight would yield the best deals. If the airlines ramp up their flights, that might become the rule of thumb again. Meanwhile, you might check Skyscanner.com and GoogleFlights.com for flights from Toronto and Montreal, if you’re on the east coast.
