Zungeru Hydroelectric Power Station is a 700 megawatts (940,000 hp) hydroelectric power plant under construction in Niger State, Nigeria. When completed, as expected, it will be the second-largest hydroelectric power station in the country, behind the 760 megawatts (1,020,000 hp) Kainji Hydroelectric Power Station .
There are currently two main types of power plants operating in Nigeria: (1) hydro-electric and (2) thermal or fossil fuel power plants. With a total installed capacity of 8457.6MW (81 percent of the total) in early 2014, thermal power plants (gas-fired plants) dominate the Nigerian power supply mix. [ 1 ]
The power station would lie across the Gurara River, downstream of the 30 megawatts Gurara I Hydroelectric Power Station. This is near the settlement of Kagarko, in Kaduna State, located in North-West Nigeria. [4] Kagarko is located approximately 148 kilometres (92 mi), by road, south of Kaduna metropolis of the state capital. [5]

The Jebba Hydroelectric Power Station, also Jebba Power Station, is a hydroelectric power plant across the Niger River in Nigeria. It has a power generating capacity of 578.4 megawatts, enough to power over 364,000 homes. The plant was commissioned on 13 April 1985, although commercial energy production began in 1983.

The power station lies across the Katsina River, near the town of Kashimbila, a Kambove Territory, town under Takum LGA Wukari Federation, Taraba State, in North-eastern Nigeria, close to the international border with Cameroon. Kashimbila is located approximately 143 kilometres (89 mi) south of Wukari Town, the nearest large town. [5]
