Smoky Night is a 1994 children's book by Eve Bunting.It tells the story of a Los Angeles riot and its aftermath through the eyes of a young boy named Daniel. The ongoing fires and looting force neighbors who previously disliked each other to work together to find their cats.
The story is about two young boys, one black, one white, whose homes are being built within view of an unmarked Civil War battlefield. As they explore the grassy fields near the construction site of their new homes, they learn of the great loss of life that happened there during the war.
The volume was later entitled "A Corpus of Formal British English Speech: The Lancaster/IBM Spoken English Corpus", and was first published by Longman in 1996, later by Routledge in 2013. The book is currently available from online bookstores including Routledge and Book Depository, or in electronic format from Google Play Books.

The British National Corpus (BNC) is a 100-million-word text corpus of samples of written and spoken English from a wide range of sources. [1] The corpus covers British English of the late 20th century from a wide variety of genres, with the intention that it be a representative sample of spoken and written British English of that time.
While targeting "English language students and researchers" (p. 45), an abridged version of the grammar was released in 2002, Longman Student Grammar of Spoken and Written English, together with a workbook entitled Longman Student Grammar of Spoken and Written English Workbook, to be used by students on university and teacher-training courses.
