Christopher Columbus [b] (/ k ə ˈ l ʌ m b ə s /; [2] between 25 August and 31 October 1451 – 20 May 1506) was an Italian [3] [c] explorer and navigator from the Republic of Genoa [3] [4] who completed four Spanish-based voyages across the Atlantic Ocean sponsored by the Catholic Monarchs, opening the way for the widespread European exploration and colonization of the Americas.
Chris Columbus, Jr. is a 1934 short animated film by Walter Lantz Productions, starring Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. [2] It is loosely based on the historic events leading to Christopher Columbus' sailing to the lands that were later named America. It is also among the few cartoons where Oswald plays a character other than himself.
In 1492 Christopher Columbus is arguing with the king of Spain whether the world is round or flat. Columbus suggests that the Earth is round like an apple or a human head. King Ferdinand insists the Earth is flat like a pancake (and Columbus' head, after flattening it with his scepter). Eventually the king kicks Columbus out of his palace.
The incomplete story of the history of the United States is told through several historical anecdotes, loaded with anachronisms.. The cartoon starts when Christopher Columbus discovers America, arrives at the new land, and is immediately greeted by native Americans recording a newsreel for Paramount and interviewing Columbus.
