The Orpheum Theatre, formerly Player's Theatre, is a 299-seat off-Broadway theatre on Second Avenue near the corner of St. Marks Place in the East Village neighborhood of lower Manhattan, New York City. The theatre is owned by Liberty Theatres, a subsidiary of Reading International, which also owns Minetta Lane Theatre. [1]
Advocacy from other concerned citizens continued and the City of Wichita designated the Orpheum Theatre as an historic landmark in 1978. In 1980, the building was added to the National Register of Historic Places. A nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization called the Orpheum Performing Arts Centre LTD was then formed to take ownership of the theatre.
Leaders of the downtown venue announced on Wednesday, the theater’s 102nd birthday, details about how it will restore the Orpheum to its original 1920s glory.
The theater is seeking a special sales tax to fund $1 million of the project.
