Independence Day [1] (Filipino: Araw ng Kasarinlán; also known as Araw ng Kalayaan, "Day of Freedom") is a national holiday in the Philippines observed annually on June 12, [2] commemorating the declaration of Philippine independence from Spain in 1898. [2] Since 1978, it has been the country's National Day.
[citation needed] These are also performed in plays and patriotic song or dance numbers, especially in schools during Araw ng Kalayaan (Independence Day) celebrations in June and Buwan ng Wika (Language Month) in August. This patriotic song is usually sung during flag retreat ceremonies on Fridays and during events that are held on a non-Monday.
