To commemorate the Mountain City Fiddlers' Convention, the nearby community of Laurel Bloomery hosts the annual Old Time Fiddler's Convention. The event is held every summer, at the town's Old Mill Music Park. Area musicians travel to attend this festival, which features old-time folk and bluegrass music. [18] [19]
Each fiddler plays a set (or 'round') of three tunes, which must include a hoedown, a waltz, and a tune of choice, which can neither be a waltz nor a hoedown. The fiddlers with the highest scores move on to the next round of competition. The number of fiddlers that get to play in each round is decided before the contest starts.

In 2016, 1st-2 October, was the first Formula Off-road competition in the Bikini Bottoms Off-Road Park in Tennessee, USA. 16 Icelanders and 4 Americans competed. [2] In 2017 the Icelandic film "Spólað yfir hafið" was released, focusing on the trip of Icelandic off-road drivers to compete in that race.

Vivian Williams (née Tomlinson; May 27, 1938 – January 6, 2023) was an American fiddler, composer, recording artist, and writer. [1] [2] She won national fiddling titles, including the National Oldtime Fiddlers Contest, and in 2013 she was inducted into the North American Old Time Fiddlers Hall of Fame.
