Mary Styles Harris (born June 26, 1949) is an American biologist and geneticist, president of Harris & Associates in Atlanta, Georgia, and owner of BioTechnical Communications, which produced the television documentary "To My Sister...A Gift for Life." [1] [2] Harris's media productions spotlight health issues of African Americans.
The Sisters’ role in providing health care is reflected in the establishment and staffing of St. Cloud Hospital; the Queen of Peace Hospital in New Prague, Minnesota; the St. Cloud School of Nursing; a school of anesthesia, a school of x-ray technology, St. Benedict's Senior Community, and other institutions.
The projects included "Walking for Wellness [that featured]… Wilma Rudolph , to encourage African American women to improve their health through exercise" (Silliman et al., 77). Additional programs included education about birth control options as well as a video to encourage women to look at their vaginas through self-exam.
The sisters have active apostolates in education, health care, spiritual direction, and other community ministries. As of 2021, there are 188 sisters in the community. The FSCC is a member of the Council of Major Superiors of Women Religious, an organization which represents women religious in the United States. [1]
This Allina Health facility was created in 2013 by the merger of Courage Center and Sister Kenny Rehabilitation Institute. [1] The Sister Kenny Institute (which opened in 1942) and Courage Center (which started serving children in 1928) were both focused on physical rehabilitation for people with specific physical conditions, as well as advocacy and other support.
