Historic railroad depot in Wells, Texas. The Shook's Bluff school, located near Shook's Bluff Cemetery, was operating in 1861. It was a crude, one-room, unpainted building. By 1920 people began to move away from the Neches River communities and closer to Wells, so the Shook's Bluff school was relocated two miles (3 km) west of Wells.

The Liberty County 1936 Texas Centennial Monument located on the courthouse grounds. The original courthouse building measures 62 by 144 feet (19 by 44 m) with 8-foot-long (2.4 m) projections on either side, making the floor plan resemble a shallow "H", and contains two stories and a basement.
