Jefferson County is a county located in the U.S. state of Iowa. As of the 2020 United States Census, the population was 15,663. [2] The county seat is Fairfield. [3] The county was formed in January 1839, and was named for U.S. President Thomas Jefferson. [4] [5] Jefferson County comprises the Fairfield, IA Micropolitan Statistical Area.

The two-story Italianate commercial building was built in 1876 by James F. Wilson as an investment property. [2] In 1865 Wilson helped establish and served as president of the First National Bank in Fairfield, and in 1870, he and R. H. Hufford, C. W. Slagle, and George Acheson organized the Jefferson County Coal Company.
Louden sold the property in 1948, and it was broken into apartments in the 1960s. The house was built in 1905 and was the residence of R. Bruce and May W. Louden until 1948. The house is within walking distance of the Louden Machinery Company , as it was the custom at the time for factory owners to be close to their properties.
The Jefferson Square Commercial Historic District is a nationally recognized historic district located in Jefferson, Iowa, United States. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2011. [ 1 ]
