St. Charles Seminary is a former American Catholic seminary, founded by the Missionaries of the Precious Blood in 1861 in Carthagena, Ohio. The seminary closed in 1969 and is now a retirement center for clergy and lay people. The seminary, chapel, and five other buildings were added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. The pope appointed John Luers of the Diocese of Cincinnati as the first bishop of Fort Wayne. Luers founded St. Patrick's Parish in Chesterton in 1858, as well as St. Paul's Parish in Valparaiso . In 1863, Luers held a synod of priests at the University of Notre Dame in which he established the laws and constitution for the diocese. [ 6 ]

Both prep school and seminary students performed the first plays at St. Charles in 1929 under the direction of Monsignor Joseph A. Cousins. Female roles were played by male students dressing up as women until 1971. It was then that Mrs. Teresa McLean (the school's biology teacher) became the first woman to perform in a St. Charles play.
