The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) was a voluntary government work relief program that ran from 1933 to 1942 in the United States for unemployed, unmarried men ages 18–25 and eventually expanded to ages 17–28. [1]
It is the only CCC-constructed youth camp in Montana. [7] Campfire Girls, Girl Scouts, Jaycees, 4-H, the Seventh Day Adventist Church, [8] and various civic and religious organizations have used the camp. [2] The Montana Conservation Corps, modeled on the CCC, holds its first week of training here each year. [3]
In 1934, Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), Indian Division constructed the clubhouse, providing jobs to local members of the Blackfeet Nation. Because the CCC only built government buildings, the club was ineligible for that Depression era program.
Youth Conservation Corps programs are conducted for 4–10 weeks during the summer. Participants must be between 15–18 years old at the start of the program, though the age limits can vary locally. Most YCC programs are non-residential; however the National Park Service does have one residential program at Yellowstone National Park .
