Williston is a city in and the county seat of Williams County, North Dakota, United States. [7] The 2020 census [4] gave its population as 29,160, making Williston the sixth-most populous city in North Dakota. The city's population nearly doubled between 2010 and 2020, due largely to the North Dakota oil boom.
The first airport to serve Williston, North Dakota, was east of the city near Little Muddy Creek. The environment was unsuitable, and operations shifted to a new airport in 1936. The 23-acre (9.3 ha) site became too small, so Sloulin Field International Airport was built in 1947. [3] ISN covered 740 acres (299 ha) of land. [1]
The county has a total area of 2,148 square miles (5,560 km 2), of which 2,077 square miles (5,380 km 2) is land and 70 square miles (180 km 2) (3.3%) is water.
