Anamudi ("Elephant head") is a mountain located in Ernakulam district and Idukki district of the Indian state of Kerala. With an elevation of 2,695 metres (8,842 ft) and a topographic prominence of 2,479 metres (8,133 ft), it is the highest peak in the Western Ghats and in South India .

Kuttanad, also known as The Rice Bowl of Kerala, is among the few places in the world where cultivation takes place below sea level. [ 4 ] [ 5 ] The peak of Anamudi , which is also the point of highest altitude in India outside the Himalayas , lies parallel to the Malabar Coast on the Western Ghats .
Anamudi peak is on the southern part of this park. Most of the park is grassland and the average altitude is more than 5000 feet above sea level. Heavy rain and gushing winds make the area inaccessible during the monsoon season. The famous Neelakurinji (Strobilanthes kunthiana) grows here. It has a flowering cycle of 12 years. [47]
