The Late Show with Stephen Colbert is an American late-night talk show and it airs weeknights at 11:35 pm Eastern/10:35 pm Central on CBS in the United States. The hour-long show has aired since September 8, 2015, and is hosted by actor, comedian and critic Stephen Colbert, an alumnus of The Daily Show and former host of The Colbert Report.
Colbert caught himself before giving the full punchline for the wrong clip, doubling over laughing and sarcastically saying they’d never made a live mistake before.

Prior to Colbert's assumption of hosting duties, David Letterman had been host of Late Show for 22 years, dating to his arrival at CBS in 1993. CBS had not had a regular late-night talk show for most of its existence before that point, with only one attempt (the short-lived Pat Sajak Show in 1989–1990) between 1972 and Letterman's arrival.
