Akamala Machad Mountain Range is located in the North Eastern part of Thrissur district in Kerala, India. Vazhani wildlife sanctuary and Vazhani Dam are located in the South East end of this mountain ranges. Human Settlement is done in the downhills of this mountain ranges all around.
Mudumalai National Park lies in the northern part of the range where Kerala, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu meet, covering an area of 321 km 2 (124 sq mi). Mukurthi National Park lies in the southwest part of the range, in Kerala, covering an area of 78.5 km 2 (30.3 sq mi), which includes intact shola-grassland mosaic, habitat for the Nilgiri tahr.
The Indian state of Kerala borders with the states of Tamil Nadu on the south and east, Karnataka on the north and the Arabian Sea coastline on the west. [5] Kerala's western coastal belt is relatively flat compared to the eastern region, and is criss-crossed by a network of interconnected brackish canals, lakes, estuaries, [7] and rivers known as the Kerala Backwaters.
