This left Wilhelm Kielblock, a noted German stained glass designer and painter, [2] and Elmore Helf, a business man, to reorganize the company. Elmore Helf was not the first member of the Helf family to run a stained glass studio, his father, Henry Helf, was shop foreman for Von Gerichten Art Glass Company in Columbus, Ohio. [3]
Novelty Glass Company's contribution included commemorative punch bowl sets and salt shakers. Some of this glassware displayed Columbus with a beard—which was rarely done. This commemorative work has subsequently become valuable to collectors. Like many companies during northwest Ohio’s brief Gas Boom, the Novelty Glass Company was short-lived.
Mambourg Glass Company was a window glass manufacturer that began production on October 26, 1887. The company was the first of thirteen glass manufacturers located in Fostoria, Ohio , in the United States, during northwest Ohio's gas boom.
The original factory was in an old glass factory in Martins Ferry, Ohio, in 1905. [1] The factory at one time was owned by the former West Virginia Glass Company. [2] At first they painted glass blanks from other glass makers, but started making their own glass when they became unable to buy the materials they needed. [2]
The Fostoria Glass Company was incorporated in West Virginia in July 1887. [14] The founders of the Fostoria Glass Company were drawn to Fostoria, Ohio, to exploit the newly discovered natural gas. The new firm also received cash incentives of $5,000 (equivalent to $169,556 in 2023) to $6,000 (equivalent to $339,111 in 2023).
