The university is the largest and highest ranking university in Albania. [5] It includes eight colleges, 50 academic departments, and 41 study programs or majors. Most programs are offered in Tirana; a few smaller affiliated campuses are located in other Albanian cities, including Saranda in the southern part of the country and Kukës in the north.

Eqrem Çabej University is a university in the Albanian town of Gjirokastër, named after Eqrem Çabej.It is one of nine SIFE accredited universities in Albania. It was created as a University with the name of “Eqrem Çabej” with decision of the Albanian Government nr. 414, dated 12 November 1991, on the basis of the Higher Institute of Pedagogy that was already established in 1971.
Aleksandër Xhuvani University is a successor institution of the "Elbasan Normal School" (Albanian: Shkolla Normale e Elbasanit), a teacher training institution that was founded on December 1, 1909. "Shkolla Normale" was the first school of vocational education in the Albanian language .
The university is a signatory of Magna Charta Universitatum [7] and a member of the UNESCO based worldwide association of International Association of Universities. The Fan Noli University has approximately 4,000 students and 94 full-time professors (out of whom over 60% have PhD degrees), and 115 instructors.
