To add a source (what Wikipedia calls citing a source), you also need to learn some technical matters—how Wikipedia software handles external links, and how it creates footnotes. The visual editor helps users format, insert, and edit sources by simply providing a DOI, URL, ISBN etc., see WP:REFVISUAL. The citation generation tool of the Visual Editor (WP:REFVISUAL) can also be used when editing the article source, for users who have enabled the 2017 wikitext editor in their preferences.
This section contains sources that weren't used in writing the article, but that provide material that could eventually be used. Images, audio and video files must be uploaded into Wikipedia using the "Upload file" link on the left-hand navigation bar. Only logged in users can upload files. Once a file is uploaded, other pages can include or link to the file. Uploaded files are given the "File:" prefix by the system, and each one has an image description page.
