The Rice River is a 57.1-mile-long (91.9 km) [1] tributary of the Mississippi River in northern Minnesota, United States. [2] It rises in southeastern Aitkin County at the outlet of Porcupine Lake and flows generally north into Rice Lake National Wildlife Refuge, where it turns west and flows to the Mississippi 5 miles (8 km) northeast of Aitkin.
It is a tributary of the Big Fork River. It begins its course at Mud Lake, Minnesota and flows largely to the west through Norman County and Mahnomen County. [2] The river is then joined by its two largest tributaries, the South Fork of the Wild Rice and the White Earth River just before converging with the Red River of the North. [3]
