Hazebrouck (French pronunciation:, Dutch: Hazebroek, pronounced [ˈɦaːzəbruk], West Flemish: Oazebroeke) is a commune in the Nord department, Hauts-de-France. [3] It was a small market town in Flanders until it became an important railway junction in the 1860s.
Nord is part of the current Hauts-de-France region and is surrounded by the French departments of Pas-de-Calais, Somme, and Aisne, as well as by Belgium and the North Sea. Its area is 5,742.8 km 2 (2,217.3 sq mi). [ 5 ]
The French side of the border is shared by, from north to south, the departments of Nord and Aisne (region of Hauts-de-France) and Ardennes, Meuse and Meurthe-et-Moselle (region of Grand Est). The limits of the border are outlined in the 1820 Treaty of Kortrijk , agreed between France and the then- United Kingdom of the Netherlands .
