Two books tied-in to the original live-action series were released: Mr. Bean's Diary in 1992 and Mr. Bean's Pocket Diary in 1994. The two books have identical content and differ only in the format in which they are printed. The content of both is a template diary with handwritten content scrawled in by Mr. Bean.
In the early 1990s, Ziegler starred in the ITV comedy Mr. Bean, where she played multiple characters, especially a three-episode stint as Irma Gobb, the title character's long-suffering girlfriend. She reprised her role as Gobb, voicing her in Mr. Bean: The Animated Series, from 2002 to 2004, and in the revived series from 2015 to 2019.
On Irma's birthday, Mr. Bean writes out two cards; one nice card and one silly card. Unfortunately, he gets the envelopes mixed up and thus sends the wrong card. After getting the silly card from the postman on the next day, Bean accidentally gives Irma the bad card, so Irma storms back into her house. Bean then tries to get Irma's attention.
