Midway Airlines was a United States airline based in Chicago, Illinois.It was incorporated on October 13, 1976, by Kenneth T. Carlson, Irving T. Tague and William B. Owens, filing with the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) for an airline operating certificate.
A feeder operation was set up with Direct Air dba Midway Connection to serve many smaller regional cities from Chicago Midway Airport. Due to competition and limited gate space, Midway Airlines moved to Durham, North Carolina, and set up a hub at Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) in early 1995.
In November 2008, Porter Airlines, which flies between Midway and Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport, was the only international route served from Chicago–Midway after ATA Airlines, which had flights to Mexico, ceased operations in April that year. On December 13, 2010, a second carrier, Volaris, began flights between Guadalajara and Midway.
