The following is a list of schools that participate in NCAA Division I softball, according to NCAA.com. [1] These teams compete to go to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Devon Park for the Women's College World Series. (For schools whose athletic branding does not directly correspond with the school name, the athletic branding is in parentheses.)
The main building of the Academy, Dean Hall, was completed in 1868. During the summer of 1872, it was destroyed by a fire, but reconstruction began and finished on June 7, 1874. The school's name changed twice more, Dean Junior College in May 1941 and then Dean College in May 1994. [4] The school's academic mascot is a bulldog named Boomer.
The 2024 Incarnate Word Cardinals softball team represented the University of the Incarnate Word during the 2024 NCAA Division I softball season. The Cardinals played their home games at H-E-B Field and were led by third-year head coach Kimberly Dean. They were members of the Southland Conference.
The Rider Broncs softball team represents Rider University in NCAA Division I college softball. The team currently participates in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC), having joined in 1998. From 1978 until 1992, the team was a member of the now-defunct East Coast Conference (ECC). [2]
The 1993 Women's College World Series was held in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma from May 27 through May 31 and marked the conclusion of the 1993 NCAA Division I softball season. Arizona won their second championship by defeating defending champions UCLA 1–0 in the final game.
St. Lawrence University (men's and women's ice hockey) Three formerly grandfathered schools moved completely to D-III. The State University of New York at Oneonta, which had been grandfathered in men's soccer, moved totally to D-II in 2006. Rutgers University–Newark, which had been grandfathered in men's volleyball, did the same in 2014. [13]
The National Junior College Athletic Association was founded on May 14, 1938, [9] and includes competition among junior college softball programs. Within the NJCAA there are Divisions I, II, and III, which are further divided into regions and conferences.
The Colgate Raiders softball team represents Colgate University in NCAA Division I college softball. The team participates in the Patriot League (PL), having joined in 1991. From 1979 until 1990, the team was independent. The Raiders are currently led by head coach Marissa Lamison-Myers.
