Its namesake is the Hardware River which provides a portion of its boundary and runs through its interior; however, it is known for the access it provides to the James River .

Carr Creek State Park is a park located along Kentucky Route 15 in Knott County, Kentucky, United States. The park itself encompasses 29 acres (12 ha), while the park's main feature, Carr Creek Lake, covers 750 acres (300 ha). [1] The park contains a 39-site campground, a full-service marina with snack bar, boat rental service, and a beach.
Carr Creek Lake's earth and rock fill dam is 130 ft (40 m) tall and 720 ft (219 m) long, and the dam is located 8.8 mi (14 km) above the mouth of Carr Fork River, a tributary of the North Fork Kentucky River. [3] The lake is the main attraction of Carr Creek State Park. [4]

Recreational opportunities are limited to some bridge crossings, state boat ramps, and canoe access areas. No permits are required. Boat ramps can be found at Routes 611 (Joyner's Bridge Rd) and 603 off Route 258 in Isle of Wight County. A new double-lane boat ramp with paved parking will be open in the City of Franklin in the spring of 2007.
