In 1824, a Mexican missionary founded the City of Victoria on the Guadalupe River and established Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. [ 2 ] In 1839, after the 1836 founding of the Texas Republic , Pope Gregory XVI erected the prefecture apostolic of Texas, covering its present-day area.
The cornerstone for the present church was laid on April 7, 1957, by Archbishop Robert E. Lucey of San Antonio and it was consecrated on November 4 the following year. Our Lady of Victory Catholic School opened in September 1957. Currently, the school has grade levels ranging from 3k to 8th grade. The school celebrated its 65th anniversary in 2022.
