James Maury Henson (September 24, 1936 – May 16, 1990) was an American puppeteer, animator, actor, and filmmaker who achieved worldwide notability as the creator of the Muppets. Henson was also well known for creating Fraggle Rock (1983–1987) and as the director of The Dark Crystal (1982) and Labyrinth (1986).

Henson was born in Westchester County, New York and attended Byrum Hill High School. She is the daughter and the oldest child of puppeteers Jane (née Nebel; 1934–2013) and Jim Henson (1936–1990), and she has four younger siblings: Cheryl (born 1961), Brian (born 1963), John (1965–2014), and Heather Henson (born 1970).
