Visalia, California, commonly known in the 1850s as Four Creeks, [1] is the oldest continuously inhabited inland European settlement between Stockton and Los Angeles. [2] The city played an important role in the American colonization of the San Joaquin Valley as the county seat of Old Tulare County, an expansive region comprising most if not all of modern-day Fresno, Kings, and Kern counties.
The first Tulare County Courthouse was a small log cabin "surrounded by a cheap fence" in the county seat of Visalia, California. The fence enclosed the county jail, which was five tree stumps with attached iron rings; prisoners were chained to the rings for security, and county officials stored records "in their hats and pockets."
Visalia was the first community ever to enroll in the program which had been established more than a decade earlier in 2003. In March 2017, Visalia received a grant worth $3,703,368 for the construction of two 10-unit tee hangars to serve small single-engine aircraft, and one corporate hangar to serve business jets and large aircraft.
