Pine Grove is a borough in Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania, United States. As of the 2020 census, the borough population was 2,054. [3] Pine Grove Area School District, serving students from three municipalities and multiple surrounding townships, is located in the borough.
Pine Grove Academy, the precursor to Grove City College, was established in 1858. Around the same time, large coal deposits were discovered in the area, kickstarting a mining industry. [7] The Pittsburgh, Shenango and Lake Erie Railroad was extended to Pine Grove in 1872, and Pine Grove Normal Academy was chartered to grant degrees in 1876.
As of the census [6] of 2000, there were 4,493 people, 1,538 households, and 1,164 families residing in the township. The population density was 174.7 inhabitants per square mile (67.5/km 2 ). There were 1,619 housing units at an average density of 62.9 per square mile (24.3/km 2 ).
