The basic approach of nearly all of the methods to calculate the day of the week begins by starting from an "anchor date": a known pair (such as 1 January 1800 as a Wednesday), determining the number of days between the known day and the day that you are trying to determine, and using arithmetic modulo 7 to find a new numerical day of the week.
The number of days between two dates, which is simply the difference in their Julian day numbers. The dates of moveable holidays, like Christian Easter (the calculation is known as Computus ) followed up by Ascension Thursday and Pentecost or Advent Sundays, or the Jewish Passover , for a given year.
The day count is also used to quantify periods of time when discounting a cash-flow to its present value. When a security such as a bond is sold between interest payment dates, the seller is eligible to some fraction of the coupon amount. The day count convention is used in many other formulas in financial mathematics as well.
Counting 8 days from Wednesday, we reach Thursday, which is the doomsday in 1985. (Using numbers: In modulo 7 arithmetic, 8 is congruent to 1. Because the century's anchor day is Wednesday (index 3), and 3 + 1 = 4, doomsday in 1985 was Thursday (index 4).) We now compare September 18 to a nearby doomsday, September 5.
Times relative to the designation are indicated with +/−[Arabic numeral] after the letter, replacing -day or -hour with a count of the same unit: "D−1" (the day before D-Day), "L+9" (9 hours after L-Hour) etc. [citation needed] In less formal contexts, the symbol or numeral may be spelled out: "D minus 1" or "L plus nine." The 360-day calendar is a method of measuring durations used in financial markets, in computer models, in ancient literature, and in prophetic literary genres.. It is based on merging the three major calendar systems into one complex clock [citation needed], with the 360-day year derived from the average year of the lunar and the solar: (365.2425 (solar) + 354.3829 (lunar))/2 = 719.6254/2 ...
