The Swedish Vallhund, also known as the Västgötaspets and Swedish cow dog, is a breed of dog native to Sweden. The breed's name, Vallhund , when translated into English, means herding dog, as the Swedish Vallhund was originally bred as a drover and herder of cows over 1,000 years ago.
Smaland Hound (Swedish: Smålandsstövare) is a breed of dog that originated in Sweden in the 16th century. The Schillerstövare originated in southern Germany as a mix of Swiss hounds and the Harrier, and is named after a Swedish farmer, Per Schiller (1858–1892), who exhibited the breed at the first Swedish dog show in 1886. [1] The Swedish Kennel Club recognised the breed in 1907.
The Danish–Swedish Farmdog became a recognized breed in Denmark and Sweden in 1987. [1] At that time, the two countries got together and agreed on the name of the breed, and also on the breed standard written by judge and breeder Lars Adeheimer, Sweden, and judge Ole Staunskjaer, Denmark.
The Norrbottenspets is a small- to medium-sized, compact and robust breed with typical spitz features. [4] Slightly smaller than the Finnish Spitz, the breed standard states dogs should stand between 43 and 47 centimetres (17 and 19 in) with bitches being slightly smaller, standing between 40 and 44 centimetres (16 and 17 in); they typically weigh between 11 and 15 kilograms (24 and 33 lb).
Swedish Lapphund breeders today believe that their breed, and other Lapphund breeds, were in serious danger of extinction. [14] A standard for the related Swedish Lapphund was adopted in 1944 in FCI (Fédération Cynologique Internationale), and the Finnish Lapphund standard soon followed.
