The William Penn athletic teams are called the Statesmen. The university is a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), primarily competing in the Heart of America Athletic Conference (The Heart) since the 2015–16 academic year.
Marc Benavidez (born c. 1990) is an American college football coach. He is the head football coach for William Penn University, a position he has held since 2023. [1] [2] He was the head football coach for Avila University from 2018 to 2022, [3] after serving as an assistant since 2013. [4]

On January 10, 2014, Grand View University and William Penn University announced they would join the Heart of America Athletic Conference after the 2014–15 season.
