Maimoa is a New Zealand musical group. Formed from current and former presenters from the Māori Television show Pūkana , the group debuted in 2016 with the single "Maimoatia", which was released to celebrate Te Wiki o te Reo Māori .
In 2015, Wihongi formed the music group Pūkana and Whānau with fellow Pūkana presenters. They changed their name to Maimoa in 2017. Maimoa appeared on the reality television shows Voices of Our Future and Waiata Nation, which documented the creation of their second single "Wairua" and their debut album Rongomaiwhiti respectively.

"Love on the Run" was released as a single on 4 June 2021, through Sony Music Entertainment New Zealand. [4] [5] The band translated the song into Māori with help from Tawaroa Kawana of the band Maimoa, [6] and released this version under the name "He Aroha Hinemoa" during Te Wiki o te Reo Māori in September 2021. [7]
By 2015, Sons of Zion's line-up stabilised, after bassist Dylan Stewart left and Caleb Haapu of the band L40 joined. Over the course of 2015 and 2016, the band released several one-off singles, "I'm Ready" (2015), "Fill Me Up" (2015), "Hungover" (2016) and "Now" (2016), after noticing a shift away from album-focused music to individual tracks as streaming became more popular.
