Destroyer Squadron 21 (Pacific): The squadron's history began on 1 March 1943, when the first ships of the then-new Fletcher-class destroyers, having been deployed to Guadalcanal in the Solomon Islands were grouped into Destroyer Squadron 21, part of Vice Admiral William F.
