The district serves Tangipahoa Parish. Robert L. Frye (1927-2011), the Republican nominee for state education superintendent in 1972, was a former member of the Tangipahoa Parish School Board. Saint Thomas Aquinas Regional Catholic High School is a private, Roman Catholic high school in unincorporated Tangipahoa Parish, Louisiana, near Hammond. It is located in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Baton Rouge .
Most Louisiana school districts are parish school districts while some are city school districts. The U.S. Census Bureau counts both types as independent governments. Special School District 1, which has gifted education facilities, is directly under the authority of the state government, not counted by the Census Bureau as its own government.

The parish is served by the Tangipahoa Parish School System. [25] Southeastern Louisiana University is located in Hammond. On seven occasions, the American Civil Liberties Union has sued the Tangipahoa Parish School Board, along with other defendants, for having allegedly sponsored and promoted religion in teacher-led school activities. [26]
It is the second-largest high school in the Tangipahoa Parish Public School System. Until the end of academic year 2010–11, it was known as Hammond High School but became Hammond Magnet High School on being so reconstituted and designated by the Tangipahoa Parish School System. [citation needed]
