The son of Francis Bulkeley Johnson, he was born in 1867. [1] He was educated at Harrow School and graduated from the Royal Military College, Sandhurst. [2]Bulkeley-Johnson was commissioned as a second lieutenant into the 2nd Dragoons (Royal Scots Greys) on 5 February 1887, [3] promoted to lieutenant on 16 March 1889 and to captain on 13 June 1894. The Royal Scots Greys was a cavalry regiment of the Army of Scotland that became a regiment of the British Army in 1707 upon the Union of Scotland and England, continuing until 1971 when they amalgamated with the 3rd Carabiniers (Prince of Wales's Dragoon Guards) to form the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards.
The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards were formed on 2 July 1971 at Holyrood, Edinburgh, by the amalgamation of the 3rd Carabiniers (Prince of Wales's Dragoon Guards) (themselves the product of the amalgamation in 1922 of 3rd Dragoon Guards (Prince of Wales's) and 6th Dragoon Guards (Carabiniers)), and The Royal Scots Greys (2nd Dragoons).
