The James Cook University Hospital, formerly known as the South Cleveland Hospital, is a public tertiary referral hospital and regional major trauma centre in Middlesbrough, North Yorkshire, England with 1,046 beds. [1] It forms part of the South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, along with the Friarage Hospital in Northallerton.
The £37 million site opened in January 2010 (though started accepting patients in December 2009), replacing the Stead Primary Care Hospital which was also in the town of Redcar. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] [ 3 ] An official opening of the 31-bed site was performed in December 2011 by David Jamilly , from the TV programme The Secret Millionaire . [ 4 ]
Friarage Hospital is a 189-bed hospital located in Northallerton, North Yorkshire, England. The hospital covers a large section of rural North Yorkshire and the Vale of York which amounts to over 120,000 people in 390 square miles (1,000 km 2 ).
Former Stockton South MP James Wharton opposed the plans for the new hospital, arguing that £50m should be invested in North Tees. [5] The Hartlepool Mail is campaigning to have services restored to the University Hospital of Hartlepool. [6] In July 2019 a merger with South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was being discussed. [7]
The Friary Community Hospital is a health facility in Queen's Road, Richmond, North Yorkshire, England. It is managed by South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The main frontage, facing east, is 19th century, while the adjacent block, facing south, is 18th century and is a Grade II listed building. [1]
