On 24 July 1877, the archdeaconry of Stoke-upon-Trent was created from the northern part of the Stafford archdeaconry. [1] After the deanery of Stafford was transferred on 26 September 1979 to the Stoke archdeaconry, [2] Stafford archdeaconry was renamed the archdeaconry of Lichfield on 25 April 1980. [3] The present archdeacon is Dr Sue Weller.

The Ven. Robert Hodgson (b Hoxne 11 July 1844 - d Lichfield 29 January 1917) [1] was Archdeacon of Stafford [2] from 1898 [3] to 1910. [4] Hodgson was educated at Eton and Oriel College, Oxford [5] and ordained in 1869. [6] After a curacy in Stoke-upon-Trent he held incumbencies at West Bromwich, Walsall and Handsworth. [7]
The church is the parish church of Rolleston on Dove, Staffordshire in the Diocese of Lichfield in the Church of England. It lies within the deanery of Tutbury and the archdeaconry of Stoke-upon-Trent. [1] By 2018 the vicar also covered Holy Trinity Church in Anslow and St Mary's Church, Tutbury. [2]

[3] In 1891 the Bishop of Coventry became a suffragan see (1891-1903), in 1918 a new Diocese of Coventry was recreated.
Simon Nicholas Hartland Baker (born 1957) is a British retired Anglican priest who served as Archdeacon of Lichfield from 2013 [1] until his retirement on 31 May 2019. [2] Baker was educated at King's College London and Queen's College, Birmingham. [3] He was ordained deacon in 1981, and priest in 1982.
