The Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award recognizes U.S. organizations in the business, health care, education, and nonprofit sectors for performance excellence. The Baldrige Award is the highest [2] formal recognition of the performance excellence of both public and private U.S. organizations given by the President of the United States.
The most widely recognized quality awards are the Deming Prize (the first of its kind) and the EFQM Excellence and Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Awards (due to their size). [5] [6] The national quality award phenomenon grew out of the Total Quality Management movement of the 1980s. [7]
In 2005, the Richland Campus became the first community college to receive the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award. [4] It has been designated as the first two-year institution in Texas as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education (CAE2Y) for academic years 2011-2016.
Since 1989, [6] ASQ has administered the annual Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award. [ 7 ] [ 8 ] The ASQ also gives the Dorian Shainin Medal, which is awarded annually for the "Development and Application of Creative or Unique Statistical Approaches in the Solving of Problems Relative to the Quality of Product or Service".
To date, the Foundation has distributed over 38,000 copies of the Award Criteria, certified over 1,400 men and women as MQA Examiners, presented 51 organizations, 28 teams, and 19 individuals with Awards, and educated over 11,000 people through public offerings. In its 16th year, the Foundation anticipates much continued success. [2]
